What if you would like to pull your hair back to create an elegant hairdo but have no elastic? Problem can be solved if you have some bobby pins on hand. This easy twisted ponytail is right for you in this case.
Only with several bobby pins, you can create pretty stunning ponytail. Different from creating a standard ponytail, to create this twisted pony, twisting sections of your hair are needed to help your hair stay in place and a small braid to hold the pony, apart from pulling your hair back.
For me, it is a little bit dull if I wear this hairstyle with solid hair color. Therefore, I used to add colorful highlights to spice it up. To create a temporary highlights hair look, I always use colorful tape in hair extensions to do me a favor.
What You Need:
- Bobby pins
- Colorful hair extensions (If you want some)
- Curling Iron
Step 1: Start with curling your hair to add some texture to your hair. Twists will not hold very well in straight, soft and clean hair. Besides, using a sea salt spray or dry shampoo works well in adding in texture. You can skip this step if you have some texture in your hair.
Step 2: Use colorful tape in hair extensions to freshen your hairdo up. For the tutorial of applying tape in hair extensions, click in Tape In Hair Extensions Technique. You can also skip this step if you have highlights or ombre hair.
Step 3: Create the left twist. Pull your hair back and grab a section of hair on the left above your ear. Twist the section of hair tightly, and then pin the twist vertically to hold it in place.
Step 4: Repeat twisting with the hair on the right. Repeat the twist like step 3, but with the hair on the right. Make sure to place the twist direct next to the first one with bobby pin.
Step 5: Create a lower twist with hair on the right. Grab all your hair below your second twist to create the third one and pin to secure it.
Step 6: Create a small braid. Grab hair below your left ear to create a basic braid.
Step 7: Wrap the braid around hair at the nape of your neck. Gather all your hair at the nape of your neck together and wrap it around with your braid. Pin the braid in place underneath your ponytail to hold the braid and the ponytail in place.
Notes & Tips
- The hairstyle is great for second day hair, because your twists work better in staying in place if compared with smooth and clean hair.
- Finish with some hairspray to make twists hold better.
It is common that most people regard ponytail as one of the most casual hairstyles. The hairstyle is mostly selected to skip heat, to save time or to avoid wearing messy hair, and when ladies fail to come up with any other good idea to rock their hair, the ponytail is the go to style. However, ponytail shouldn’t have been so boring, and it can have great fun as well. At the base of ponytail, some pretty sophisticated hairstyles can be created, with the assistance of braid, knot, embellishment, etc. Have no idea of what you are going to do? Just get hairstyle ideas from the spring/summer runway, in which some ponytails looks more than stunning. Beyond your expectation, the styling of these ‘do is so easy that you can create at home.
- The Twist Knot Ponytail
To get your classic ponytail upgraded to this power twist ponytail showed off at Dannijo in New York, all you need are one more elastic, and shine hairspray. When styling the ponytail, start with gathering all your hair back into a ponytail and secure with an elastic. Next, secure the hair about 2 inches below the first joint using another elastic. Divide the hair between the two elastic to create a hole. Flip the tail of the pony up and through the hole and tighten the second elastic. Finish with a little hairspray.
- The Fabulous Crimp
The adding of some crimpers and some 80’s inspired texture to your hair can surely freshen up your pony. The ponytail rocked backstage at Stella is crimped partly throughout the hair. The additional texture makes the ponytail cool in no minute. But you should make sure to avoid crimping your whole head, as a full head of crimp always looks dull.
- The Braid-To-Pony
It is easy to notice the popularity of braids around red carpets and runways. The integrating some braids into your ponytail makes a difference to your hair makeover. Instead of plaiting your whole pony into small or big braids, a style which looks fabulous all the same, this one needs braiding on your head. Start with dividing your hair into three sections and then create a big braid down the middle and two small ones down either side. At last, gather the three braids into a low ponytail and secure with an elastic.
- The Cool Embellishment
The messy pony rocked at the backstage of Fendi was so cool with the decoration of a big embellishment. You even can gather all your get up hair into a low ponytail without comb them smooth. Applying a large accessory to the pony can make a difference instantly. If you want to add volume to the ‘do, back comb your roots before styling a ponytail.
Getting naturally curly hair can be kind of God blessing or frustrating, all depending on how you treat and style their hair. For one thing, curly hair looks chic and stunning, and for another, getting one naturally saves a big sum of money spent in salon or curly iron.
However, while curly hair often represents stunning hair makeover, real curls usually have different shapes and are a little bit frizzy. In this case, to reduce frizz and help create stunning style, you might be in need of relevant products. But no matter how many products you use, it is normal that you will still have some frizz.
To make curly hair more stunning, a fabulous hairstyle can be of kind of assistance.
This ‘do is inspired by classic topsy-tail (Remember the double wrap topsy tail tutorial I shared before?) Just like classic one, this one is also very simple, and it can be styled into a ponytail or tucked into a bun.
For the ponytail version, it is a fantastic way to upgrade a simple low ponytail, while for the later one, the ‘do will be more elegant, making it suitable for both formal and casual occasions.
What you need:
- Clear elastics. Or you can choose the ones whose color matches your hair.
- Bobby pins. You will need some if you select the tucked bun.
Step 1: Start with creating 3 ponytails down the back of your head. Pull all your hair back and then gather the hair around your temples to style your first ponytail. After that, gather hair directly below the first one and leveling with your ears. The rest of hair at the nape of your neck is to be gathered into the third ponytail.
Step 2: Create the topsy-tailing. To flip each ponytail up and over itself, you can start with separating the hair between the roots and the elastic to make a hole, then turn the tail upside down and flip over into the hole and tighten the elastic up.
Step 3: Repeat the topsy-tailing with the second and third tail. Different from the first one, before pulling the tail through the holes, tuck the former tail inside the hole.
Step 4: Finish with a little hairspray if you want a ponytail version.
Step 5: For a bun version, you can roll up the rest of the ponytail and tuck it beneath the hair. Pin to secure it.
When it comes to growing your hair out, you may be faced with a similar problem to having a bad haircut. Why? Apart from making your hair long and kind of voluminous, growing your haircut can go with a bad haircut occasionally, because of the split ends and dry hair grown. To have longer hair does not mean no-trimming, since trimming your hair on a regular basis will not prevent it from growing. Actually, your hair will look healthier and be growth-stimulated. If you can not make sure when it is time for a trimming, you are suggested taking these 5 signs below into consideration.
- You have split or dry ends
Find it hard to make it clear when it is time for a haircut? Take a quick look at your ends. It is the biggest sign, as well as the quickest way. You can easily tell the condition of your hair. Are they fired? Dry? Starting to split? If this is the case, have your hair trimmed as soon as possible.
- You have funky hair
You might face the case in which your hair refuse to go your way or even moves toward the opposite direction regardless what you try. You may be frustrated with haphazard layers, frizzy hair ends, or other hair problems. If so, it is of potentiality that your hair needs trimming.
- You have uneven sides
The sign that your sides are uneven indicates that you are in need of a haircut, because uneven sides always come with different speed hair growth. If not all your hair grows at the same speed, it may mess your hairstyle up, bringing hair, long or layered hair.
- You have noticeable roots
If you have your hair dyed or highlighted, surely you can notice obvious hair growth. It is time for a haircut or a root touchup if you have more than an inch of hair in natural color.
- You fail to remember your last haircut
Generally speaking, it is suggested having a regular trim at least every 6-8 weeks, because having a regular haircut tends to result in healthy and nice hair ends. If you forget the last time when you trimmed your hair, it is very possible that your last haircut was done so far away. Therefore, it is time for you to step into a salon.

Shailene’s punky pixie made the public wow in 2015 Met Gala. She had fun of the feathery pixie and looked amazing with the style.
How to get the style?
Because one of the key factors of recreating the look is to get tousled, sexy texture, the fabulous result can be gotten by spritzing wet hair with a sea salt spray. After that, rough dry and style your hair as you like.
We loved Shailene’s topknot rocked at an awards show in London. The ombre hair looked fabulous in the sweet style.
How to get the style?
To create the style, start with second day hair for a better hold. Apply shine-enhancing hair product to your hair, and then twist the hair into a high knot. Pin to keep the topknot in place.
Long, Straight Locks
For a long time, just before her pixie cut, Shailene had been rocking long, straight tresses. Her iconic romantic tresses got her glamour upgraded in no minute.

After well shampooing your hair, blow dry it smooth and make everything better by using a straightener. For additional shine, add a few hairspray to it. If your natural hair is too short to meet your requirement, use hair extensions to add length and volume.
Speaking of one of the most romantic hairdo Shailene rocked with her long locks, most of us will pick this flirty fishtail up. It is a fantastic style for special events, and it was a charming ‘do Shailene wore to the 2010 MTV Movie Awards.

Fishtail looks so romantic and intricate, however, it is not complicated as you image. To recreate Shailene’s fishtail, what you need to do is only a few steps. Check them in the Tutorial for a fishtail braid.
Ponytail has always been on trendy. It is a stunning ‘do suitable for many celebrities, Shailene included of course. With all her hair pulled back to create into a medium height ponytail, her looked so feminine.

The final result will be more stunning if you style with freshly washed hair. After well shampooing your hair, blow dry it smooth. Then add shine using shine-enhancing products, like Keratin Complex Sparkle and Shine Copper. After that, gather all the hair to create into a medium height ponytail. Secure with a clear elastic. To make it more fabulous, grab some strands of hair from the outside of the ponytail, and wrap around the roots to conceal the elastic, and then pin to secure.
Hairstyles with part are always seen sported by numerous wearers. Part designs often create stunning final results, working well in changing up your hair to complement the whole style. However, some wearers are sick of wearing these styles, because of the dull looks or impaired hairdos resulting from the parts. Therefore, here the question arises. How should we adjust our part to our hairstyles so as to get our styles upgraded? Here I list four different ways to rock hair part. Read on to select the most suitable one.
- Center Part
The center part can be kind of versatile, creating fabulous look for medium to hong hair, being suitable for all hair textures. Besides, for a boho style or 70s fashion, the center design help change up the hair look. Generally speaking, the style looks best on oval and heart-shaped faces. Of course, you can try it out for other face shapes, but the long one is strongly not suggested because it can lengthen your face seemingly. How a stunning final look the style can help to create? See ‘dos worn by Mega babes Sophia Vergara and Lauren Conrad as examples.
- The California Fling
Well, the hair part makes the ‘do so cool. To recreate the style, you can just casually toss your hair to one side. The design is one of the side parts, but it is a deep side part whose hair is pushed back from the face and over to the side in a big 90s wave. Many celebrities, including some of our favorite 90s teen television stars, once rocked this style. If you have long natural waves, you will surely look incredibly stunning in the style. It is versatile as well, being suitable for all face shapes, better than the center part.
- Side part
It is a classic design for almost all face shapes, looking good on straight or wavy hair, fine or thick hair. But it can not be denied that it looks the best on vintage waves and short polished flirty hair.
For me, either side of my hair is suitable for a side part, although some say parting hair to the right side helps show softer, more feminine side, while to the left display inner strength and savvy.
- Zig-Zag part
For those who have noticeable roots and seldom have their hair touched up at a salon, it is suggested diffusing the roots with a zig-zag part. It can be styled in every direction, and looks fantastic with curls, especially hair with natural textures. Almost every face shape looks good in the style.
Which one is your style? Or which one will you try in the coming future?
